Raising a Nonprofit Consulting.
Because raising a nonprofit is an adventure. And no two journeys look quite the same.
If there's one thing I've learned from my years in the nonprofit world,
it's that raising a nonprofit is quite an adventure!
There are wonderful moments when everything seems to come together, days when you're not quite sure how you'll make it all work, and plenty of surprises along the way. Plans change. People come and go. Doors open that you didn't even know were there. And occasionally, you find yourself wondering how something that seemed like such a simple idea became quite so complicated!
But that's part of the adventure, isn't it?
I've had the joy of starting an organization with little more than an idea and a whole lot of determination, watching it grow beyond anything I could have imagined, and learning more than a few lessons along the way. I've also spent years alongside other nonprofit leaders, boards, and organizations, each with their own stories, strengths, growing pains, and dreams for what might be.
That's what Raising a Nonprofit Consulting is all about.
Sometimes our work together begins with a new idea that's just waiting to take shape. Other times, an organization is growing, changing, facing a difficult decision, or simply ready to think differently about what comes next.
And sometimes, what you really need is someone to pull up a chair, listen, ask a few good questions, share a little experience, and help you see something you hadn't considered before.
After all, there's no one way to raise a nonprofit. And I've found that some of the best things happen when we figure it out together.
A little experience. A lot of curiosity.
And a few stories to tell.
Over the years, I've had the opportunity to see the nonprofit world from just about every angle. I've been the person with the big idea, the only employee, the one trying to figure out how to make payroll, and the executive responsible for an organization that had grown well beyond anything I imagined when it began.
I've worked with wonderful boards, navigated some interesting challenges, celebrated milestones, made a few mistakes, and learned an awful lot from the people I've met along the way.
And after all these years, I'm still curious.
I love learning what makes an organization special. How it came to be. Who helped bring it to life. What keeps its leaders up at night. What they're dreaming about for the future. And perhaps most importantly, what they already have going for them that they might not fully recognize.
All those years of experience give me plenty to draw from, but they've also taught me something important: there's no magic formula for building a successful nonprofit.
Every organization has its own story, its own people, and its own way of finding its footing. What works beautifully in one place might not make a bit of sense somewhere else.
And figuring out those differences is some of my favorite work.
Where we might work together
Organizational Strategy & Direction
Making sense of where you are, where you want to go, and what it might take to get there.
Leadership & Governance
Working with executives and boards on the relationships, responsibilities, decisions, and sometimes difficult conversations that come with leading an organization.
Organizational Growth & Sustainability
Thinking through structure, staffing, resources, partnerships, and the practical realities of growing without losing sight of why you started.
New Organizations & New Ideas
Helping turn an idea into an organization, a program, a partnership, or something that doesn't quite have a name yet.
Systems Change & Collaboration
Bringing people and organizations together around work that none of them can accomplish quite the same way alone.
Early Childhood & Infant Mental Health
A field especially close to my heart, and one where I've spent many years building organizations, supporting leaders, and helping strengthen the systems surrounding young children and families.
